Ciudad (pob., 2000: 197.800 hab.), en el oeste del estado de Michigan en EE.UU. Se ubica junto al río Grand y fue fundada en 1826 como puesto comercial.

La gran cantidad de madera proveniente de los bosques cercanos pronto dio origen a la industria de carpintería y ebanistería. Después de que los muebles de Grand Rapids fueran exhibidos en la Exposición del Centenario de 1876 en Filadelfia, la ciudad se hizo conocida como la capital del mueble de EE.UU. Con el advenimiento de la primera guerra mundial su industria se diversificó y, posteriormente, las manufacturas en metal sobrepasaron a la industria del mueble. Su biblioteca pública contiene colecciones importantes de libros sobre diseño de muebles y entre sus instituciones de educación se incluye el Kendall College of Art and Design, [escuela de arte y diseño] (1928). El pdte. Gerald Ford pasó su niñez en Grand Rapids.
